Nicky Falkenhayn
I use subjects from my own life experience and family history to show society an image of itself.
Growing up in a small conservative village in Switzerland, where only boys could participate in wood and metal work, I became skilled in knitting and sewing. I was lucky my mohter had a more liberate and tolerant idea of art and craft and set an example for me.
In my work, I explore issues of identity, duality and aesthetics. In my surge for harmony in relationships I am asking people to take a look at the roles we play as men and woman on this earth.
Lightweight, original and comfortable is what I want my jewelry to be. Knitted and crocheted silver wire is the base of my designs, which are inspired by European jewelry since I grew up in Switzerland.
